In October 2011, Bella Stairs was asked to participate in one of HGTV’s programs for a new custom wood staircase. Provided a “short” window period to design, fabricate, and install the staircase, Bella Stairs was honored to have the opportunity to join many other vendors which have appeared on the HGTV network.

The entrance to the family room from the main living quarters was meant to become one of the main focal point in the room. The “Before & After” of the staircase speaks for itself. Just take a look below!

This custom center-beam wood staircase combines dark woods and stainless steel elements. The dark wenge treads compliment as well as provide some contrast between other elements in the space.

New York City Loft – Custom Wood Staircase – Bella Stairs

New York City is the ideal location for renovation and restoration jobs with the dream of creating that downtown oasis. This one particular client purchased this loft apartment facing Bryant Park, in a building dating to the early 1900′s. NYC Registered Architect Hal Dorfman designed the space, and contacted Bella Stairs to provide a custom staircase to fit the needs of the client.

This New York City Loft stair project had a material list of european maple treads, stainless steel stringers, and stainless steel railing on the staircase and custom landing. The main staircase uses rectangular and winder treads in order to provide a comfortable, yet efficient configuration for this Bryant Park Loft. The custom landing was to be the connecting element between the master bedroom and home gym’s secondary staircases on the 2nd level.

The local New York City Building Code allowed for open treads on this staircase. It is crucial to verify and abide to the local building code regulations prior to the construction and fabrication of any stair project. There are ratios, equations, and standard dimensions which must be met prior to permit approval.

After staining the new maple floors to match the european maple treads on the staircase, the apartment’s transformation was complete.

The softness of the european maple treads compliments the brushed stainless steel stringers and horizontal railing. The exposed brick work that is original to the building was maintained, and also adds a nice decorative contrast of materials.

The first job is a curved glass stair located in the Infinity at Brickell condominium in downtown Miami, fl.

This glass stair incorporates curved glass railing, glass treads, and a stainless steel support system that will completely transform the space. This stair has all the required permit paperwork with the city of Miami, and will be completed in December 2010.

For those clients who wish to combine materials, we have another stair that is quite innovative. The following stair is a cantilevered staircase also located in Miami, Florida.

This Cantilevered wood staircase incorporates wood materials, an internal steel structure, with side mounted glass railing. The beauty of this stair design is you can customize this design with different species and stains of wood, as well as choose glass railing, or our standard stainless steel railing with the patented olive detail connection.

Also, the wood can be substituted with stone (granite, quartz, etc), and you can have open risers (4″ maximum). That is the beauty of custom stair design – the possibilities are endless.

5. Installation! – The stair will then be delivered to your household. The general contractor will unload and assemble the stair as specified by the design plan. Once installation is complete, you can enjoy the new stair to your home and feel comfortable knowing all legal documentation has been submitted and approved.

Following these 5 steps is crucial. With all the legal papers filled out, you will pass any home inspection and you can sell your home at any time. Without acquiring approved permits, you will not pass the home inspection unless you remove the staircase.
