Loft Living – Glass Railings and Walls

Swapping metal railings for glass railings is a great modification to many residential towers and condos’ loft units. Most Residential towers are filled with “designer ready” apartments waiting for homeowners to add their own personal flair. So when this homeowner purchased this open concept loft apartment, they were eager to remove the monotonous vertical picket rails with glass railings.

The loft’s floor plan’s geometry invited the swap of materials to frame-less glass railings and glass walls to allow privacy without blocking the eastern view of Biscayne Bay.

One of the protocols of City of Miami Building Department  requires all the glass for the railings and 2nd floor to be laminated/tempered. There was a glass door incorporated at the entry of the master bedroom with a locking feature for added security. Sealing all glass gaps with clear silicone also prevents noise traveling from the living room below, an important quality for an ultra modern master bedroom suite.

Overall, the space’s aesthetics were greatly improved. This loft apartment got a much needed face-lift to compete with Downtown Miami’s modern living. And with the unblocked eastern views of Biscayne Bay, the glass railings and walls compliment this loft’s bones and geometries.
